Teaching orchestra in a public school requires many resources, activities, online apps, and much more! I have dedicated this page to make those resources available that I use to teach as well as the name/link for the apps that I use daily and find the most helpful! If any of the links/documents below do not work for you, please contact me and I can send them to you!
Apps
Here are the list of apps with links I use all the time:
- Google Docs
- Google Sheets
- Add-on for grading is Doctopus. It’s amazing!!
- Google Slides
Teaching Documents
Here are some resources I use when teaching:
Teaching Plan
This is what I use to plan out how I am going to teach a new piece of music.
Scales Worksheet
This is the sheet that I used to help the students remember their scales and see the patterns.
Key Signature Google Slide
This is what I use to help my students in the upper-grade levels understand key signatures. I noticed that students had a hard time understanding how exactly the sharp and flat symbol notate which line/space changes, so this presentation points that out.
Playing Quiz Rubric for 5th-6th Grade (ages 10-12)
This is a rubric that I use to grade my students when they play a quiz for me. Adding posture was a great decision because now it becomes a daily thought for these students.
Playing Quiz Rubric for 9th-12th Grade (ages 14-18)
This is the rubric I use to grade my older students with a playing quiz.
Violin Repertoire Sequence from Mimi Zweig
This is a violin repertoire document that Mimi Zweig provides on her String Pedagogy website. I use it for my private lesson students mainly, and any other students in the orchestra that like to work on individual repertoire.
