Studio

In 2010, I started teaching private lessons to beginner string players around my hometown. Throughout my time at UW-Eau Claire and after, I continued to teach lessons to young string players that I connected with through schools and other youth string opportunities.

While teaching in Burlington, I taught private string lessons at Musicology in downtown Burlington. I taught up to 10 students that consist of violin, viola, and cello players. If you want to check out Musicology, please click on the link: http://musicologystore.com/

How lessons work:

The first lesson is a free introductory lesson. This helps determine what proficiency level the student is at and what resources will be needed to continue with the lessons.

Beginner Lesson Outline:

  • Student determines which instrument to play
  • Fitting of that instrument (size, and where to get instrument from)
  • Determine items needed for learning new instrument
  • Determine lesson schedule with parents

Starting Private Lessons for first time:

  • Student brings their instrument and any music they might have
    • If student has no music we will find new music!
  • Determine the student’s playing ability-
    • Current level of ability
    • What could be improved
    • How they view private lessons-goals/ideas
  • Determine if the music the student brought is appropriate for age/ability
    • If not, we will find new music!
  • Find what materials will be needed for private lessons
  • Determine lesson schedule with parents

Private Lessons (This is for the student who has had a previous private lesson teacher)

  • Student brings instrument and music from previous lesson teacher
  • Determine the student’s playing ability-
    • Current level of ability
    • What could be improved
    • How they view private lessons-goals/ideas
  • Determine if there are new materials to purchase
  • Determine lesson schedule with parents
